chanz's review: Looper

A good film, better than Bait (the last movie I watched this month).

Synopsis: In 2072, when the mob wants to get rid of someone, the target is sent 30 years into the past, where a hired gun awaits. Someone like Joe, who one day learns the mob wants to 'close the loop' by transporting back Joe's future self. - imdb
Time travel. I like it.

It was kind of confusing at first, but for people like me, I quickly get the story.

It's just that the story's pace is slow. It was midnight movie, and yeah..sleepy.

Time paradox is killing me. If your future self came to your present, would anything happened to you now will cause the future self in your present time to experience the same thing? Is it?

If you bleed your hand from deep cuts, will the future self in your present be having the scars? If you meet new people, will your future's memory also be affected?

Usually, in a time travel fiction, I thought future self and present self were two different people. It's different timeline now. The future self has experienced his life. Even if he tried to change history, his world would not be affected. The act of the future self coming to the present (or past) has changed everything. Of course everything's changed. He wasn't even supposed to be there. Butterfly effect. Thus, the present he was at has become a different timeline.

But not in this movie. The theory was different. Present and future self are interconnected. Hence, it is interesting for me.

Time travel aside, there's another aspect in this movie which was psychic power, or telekinesis. It seems that in the year of 2044, people discover a telekinesis power..lol

Oh yeah, the actor, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, if you're a fan of Inception, or you've watched the movie, you would notice this guy. Although, I can say in this movie he looks a bit different. And Bruce Willis, he's still badass. Killing spree with...assault rifle, was it? Dual assault rifles. Badass.

Nevertheless, a good movie deserves a 7/10 from me.

  1. The cast is great, especially JGL who has been having a stellar career so far, but the plot it what really kept me interested as it continued to throw twist-after-twist at me, without any confusion whatsoever. It’s a great sci-fi flick that actually makes sense. Good review Chanz.
