Gin no Saji: New Manga by Hiromu Arakawa

So.. I've been reading this new manga by Hiromu Arakawa - Gin no Saji (Silver Spoon). The mangaka was known for creating such a legendary series, Fullmetal Alchemist hence I have expectation for her new work. Yep, "her". The mangaka is a woman. :)

This time...there is no robot walking around...no superpower ability...just...just ANIMALS. Read the synopsis below.

Synopsis:
A young boy named Yugo Hachiken apparently aspire to live separated from his family. So he took the chance by enrolling to an agriculture school, one which required its students to live at dormitory. He thinks, with his talent in studying, no problem will arise no matter what kind of school he goes to. But he's proven wrong. Grown up as all-easy-to-get city boy, he is forced to uncover not-too-convenient truth about agricultural life. Enjoy the story of Hachiken, as he trying to keep up with his friends, farmers' heirs who are already accustomed to hardworking farm life.

And here are my comments:

Our main character this time. Hachiken, your average high schooler.

1) First Thought
When I first heard that the story is going to be about agriculture...I suddenly remembered Moyashimon. And sheep.

isn't he a natural?  loved by animals?

Yep. Kambing. Why? Because last year I went to my friend's house. He currently pursuing his study on agricultural in UPM. And I got to see his kambing he raised on his own. Nice! hahak!

smoked chicken without food additives was explained in a very detailed....way.

2) Informative
Just like Moyashimon, this is also an educational manga. I don't know whether it is the translator works or really in the scripts, but sometimes the dialogues are too much, filled with science knowledge stuff. Too many knowledge being put in one dialogue.

The only information I like so far is this:

3) Nothing like FMA
What I mean here is...the feeling is different. It lacks of adventure. Lacks of fights. Lacks of tension. But...of course the character designs quite similar. Seeing their outfits, it reminds me of the military people lol. Nampak lebih kurang.

4) Super hilarious
This is the only similarity with FMA I guess. While FMA got also the serious side, Silver Spoon just.....more funny than serious. The jokes also..somehow very similar with FMA. This is only based on four chapters okay.

Hachiken & his "Winry?"

From the ending of chapter four, later there will be some romantic story between Hachiken & Mikage (the girl he seems to like)..that's quite a strong plot I guess.


5) Too early to conclude anything
The characters' development is still slow. Not much being told about the main characters. From what I seen, Hachiken is the only one without aim/dreams in the school. He's from the city, how come would he like agriculture lol? This is just my hunch, later he will somehow find somewhere he belongs in agriculture. Maybe the horse thing, anything as long as the character got the determination to do it (the same in FMA, Edward determined no matter what to get their bodies back), this is going to be a good story. It's challenging as well to Hachiken as he is not from agricultural background.

6) Related to dietetics
This manga somehow related to dietetics and food. Well, it focuses on the livestocks, cows, chickens, etc etc the "asal makanan itu dijadikan". Good what. Also there is food science programme in the school.


This is so going into my manga read list for the moment. :)
